NOTE: This page Under Construction/Conversion
This page has not been completely converted to OFPv2 Standards.
When this is completed, this paragraph will go away.
Meanwhile, all external links on this page open a new window.
NOTE: Most links on this page have not been verified, yet.

Special Note: Links marked with ($$) require a subscription and/or cost money!

The following are categories that currently don't contain more than a very few links.

Census

  • Ancestry.com's U.S. Census Images ($$) - NOTE: All but a very few of the available images are are indexed by "every name". For my family, I have found most of the images exist, even if I have to click through all the images to find them - kinda like "turning" pages in a book, or taking the next frame in a microfilm projector - and those I haven't found, yet, I am currently assuming I am looking in the wrong places. I generally use these one name and one census year at a time, and can use information from other sites or my own knowledge/research to narrow down the searches to specific locations and (sometimes) pages.
  • CensusDiggins - FREE Census Online, Marriage and Civil War Databases
  • Census Finder - "Census Finder is a tool designed to help you find sites which offer free census records online." This site has information not found elsewhere, and much more than census information, too.
  • Census Information - Slightly dated, but has information about What it is, What's in it, Indexing information, etc.

Land Records

  • Bureau of Land Management (BLM) General Land Office (GLO) Records - The Official Federal Land Patent Records Site - Searchable databases and images of "Federal land conveyance records for the Public Land States." The site currently (10/03/2003) has "image access to more than two million Federal land title records for Eastern Public Land States, issued between 1820 and 1908. Images of Serial patents (land titles issued between 1908 and the mid-1960's) are currently being added to this web site. Due to organization of documents in the GLO collection, this site does not currently contain every Federal title record issued for the Public Land States."
  • Finding Public Land Sales in Illinois - How to read a land record and find the location on a map. While this is specifically Illinois and the databases may be different for other states, if you can extrapolate the codes to the "land description" (or if your state's database does it for you), you can use the same techniques. PLEASE NOTE: SOME STATE'S LAND RECORDS ARE NOT IN THIS FORMAT. THE MEASUREMENTS ARE DIFFERENT.
  • Graphical Display of the Federal Township and Range System - Another description of (and a little less deep than) the above Illinois version of finding the described land.
  • Land Record Reference - Land Record Reference - Subheadings include "Getting Land", 'State by State History" (only Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Virginia as of 10/24/2003), "Buying and Selling Land", "Land Transaction Records. How they work, and where they are", "Two Types of Property Descriptions Used in Deeds", and "Terms You'll Come Across".
    • Land Record Sites - Land Records on the Internet - "A variety of land record information is available on the Internet. (Don't forget to check our book section for web sites for book sellers. The info you're looking for may be available in print.)"
