OPNQRY, some using SQL, and one using RPG/ILE. Some were used to
create MS Excel spreadsheets and one produced letters through
ODBC.
- Designed, developed, implemented, and documented various:
generic routines and modules used in a variety of applications.
- Produced "Programmer Aids" documents:
- Common Programs (what they do & their parameters);
- Trouble-shooting Guide (common problems and how to
solve them);
- How-To Guide... (instructions for setting up and
using things - e.g. ODBC & connecting with EXCEL);
- Where Do I Find... (where to find examples of Common
Programs in COBOL & CLP, etc.)

- Technical Resource for SmartStar, SQL, VAX COBOL, VAX BASIC, DCL,
RPG/400, CL, DDS, some WINDOWS, WORD, NETSCAPE, a little EXCEL,
ACCESS, etc.
- Lead or Main Programmer/Analyst on 15-20 different new and
numerous update/upgrades on VAX and/or AS/400 applications for
various departments.
- Designed, developed, implemented, and documented various:
development tools, standards, and guidelines used by a variety of
MIS groups; generic routines, files, and modules used in a variety
of applications for both VAX & AS/400.
- Designed, documented, and oversaw development of AS400 to VAX
Email procedures (not using Office/400 or a package). Developed
VAX-side procedures.
- Specifically on IBM AS/400 (last 4-5 years):
- Main in-office Technical Resource/Team member of project
to upgrade Property Management package three version
levels at one time. Coder and primary QA/installation
specialist for migration libraries of company's custom
report programs integrated to package. Worked with
consultants and contractors throughout. Documented
migration procedures.
- Technical Resource/Team member of project to convert
in-house Redistribution Management System from VAX
system to AS/400. Analysis/Design of 20+ programs/procedures,
and coder of 5-10 programs/procedures.
- With consultant: developed company AS/400 MIS standards &
guidelines concerning coding, screen design, migration
procedures, etc.; developed first MSA applications, used
as samples/shells for maintenance and reporting; developed
numerous "tool"-type function programs; aided with
modifications to third party menu driver.
- Kept system-wide field reference file (all other field
reference files refer to it), with title of Database
Administrator.
- Specifically on Digital Machines:
- Technical Resource/Team member of project to move all
applications from a cluster of 3+ older VAXes to a single
newer one. Performed verifications to prove systems worked
on new VAX.
- Main Technical Resource/Team member of project to convert
Accounts Receivable from PDP-11/70 to VAX/VMS-based version.
Developed many of the validation and input functions, and
interactive and batch procedures used throughout the system.
- Headed conversion/testing effort for various systems from VMS
v4.5 to v5.1 and SmartStar v5.1 to v5.2 at same time.
- Assisted in developing company VAX COBOL standards and
guidelines manual; responsible for producing final release.

working in the meat department off and on until after graduation
from Purdue.
