Resumes
Sub-Section Links:
OFP started as my "advertising" space. Even though I had a company name, a basic "look" for the site, and ideas about some of the things I wanted to put here, it took my position of "Senior Software Applications Developer" (aka Senior Programmer/Analyst I, II or III - the ranking depends on the company - Some look at I, others III, as being "highest" level in their company) being "eliminated" on February 07, 2003 for me to actually push it from ideas to fruition.
From this page you have access to all of the online versions (only name and JavaScript-written email address, no address or phone numbers) of my resumes, and there's lots of other information on other pages of this site. NOTE: While I've spent some time changing the majority of the pages on this site to use divs instead of "tables for formatting" (see Main Section, OFPv2 Redesign Notes), I have not converted my HTML resumes, yet. I don't know that I will or need to until I do some type of major update or revision on them. (...Like, maybe, add a new job?)
But first, if you don't mind, especially since 20 years of programming experience doesn't seem to mean much if you can't truthfully list current languages on your resume, another reason for this site is to find a way to help people, while at the same time (hopefully) making a little money for myself and my family. (Please see my Personal Notes on the What's New(s) page for information about my ... "disabilities" ... that may preclude me from finding a paying job, if it requires me to work "in the office" all the time.)
Here are some skills that I have done, and can do, working at home that may or may not be easy to tell from my resume. Think of this as a type of ... summary ... for those who will actually read my resume, and as "advertising" for those who are looking for someone to help with any of the following:
Tutoring/Teaching Software Use
I have taught a number of people how to use software with which I am familiar, or can learn quickly. (See also Documentation section, below.) If you need some help learning your software, contact me!
Web Design/Development
I have designed a number of websites. See my OFP Designed/Developed Websites page for more information. Also, my years of programming have helped me design programs and databases, though I don't have the experiences necessary to actually code them for the internet or PC. I have years of experience on the internet, and have found many sites that work, and many that don't, some of the latter done professionally by those that do sites for others. I can critique, help and/or design and develop a site for you.
Also, see my OFPv2 Redesign Notes page.
Documentation
Check out this site and the others. It should show you
how I write - attempting to write so as many people as possible
understand. I use step-by-step instructions where necessary,
and believe I can explain to the rankest rookie how to do
something. I mean, I've explained to my dad and uncle
via email how to shrink the sizes of images, how to use
zip files, and numerous other things, and they've accomplished
them! This leads me to believe that I could explain almost
anything I understand to anyone!

FAQ Central and many of the site's Sub-Section and Division home pages show more of my documentation.
Online Research
Kind of tying in to the Documentation category, I have been researching Urban Legends, Virus Hoaxes, Infomercials, and various other email and website claims and threats for years. See OFP's Scams, Shams and More Flim-Flams pages for my "findings" pertaining to these.
I have also been researching my family history (genealogy) since
my job "elimination" (see above), and have found over
8500 individuals, most of them well-documented with secondary
sources. (When I started I didn't do it right.
- Who does?), and I have much more research that isn't currently
included in my database, yet. (See below for more.)
Graphics Design/Development
I developed or edited most of the graphics on most of the websites I have designed. I have created website "looks" from letterhead, business cards, clipart, pictures, etc. Be sure to see my "Graphics Capabilities" page, too.
For some of the sites I have designed, I created both email and regular (printed) stationary and for a couple, printable order forms. The email stationary was designed for use with Outlook and Outlook Express (and any other email software that would use HTML stationary), and the printable stationary and order forms were designed in WORD, though using a PDF, could be printed (and be the same every time) or passed on to a printing company.
Programming
While I am an experienced programmer (over 20 years), most of my experience is in "legacy languages", such as PDP-11 and VAX Basic, VAX and AS400 COBOL, with some AS400 RPGIII and IV. I have also used SQL Queries on both the VAX and the AS400. I am very good at designing relational databases (RMS and DB2), and can design programs and applications to do what needs to be done, even if I don't know or have time to learn the actual programming language. (One of the last projects I worked on for Simon was kind this way ... The small group with which I was involved, worked with managers and more computer-savvy users on designing the programs and processes necessary for a new application, while another group and contractors did the actual program coding.)
Genealogy
From when my job was eliminated in February, until November, 2003, when I wrecked my knee, I spent most of the days searching for work and most of the evenings searching for ancestors and their relatives, mostly on the internet. Since then, most of the time that I'm not working on a website, has been spent working on my family's genealogy. I have a subscription to Ancestry.com's US databases, have found well over 1000 Census records, showing where my family lived (and much more information) and have most of my immediate relatives' families back to at least 1800, and some before. I have well over 8500 individuals in my database, most all with at least one source. I also created a Genealogy Links webpage with links to many of the sites I found most useful. Also, see my Family Tree page.
If you would like me to do some research on your family, I need to have at least a couple of people before 1930. (At this point, privacy laws protect what is considered "non-public" information after that, unless you are immediate family. And, even then, sometimes it's difficult to get the information.)
I have other skills (see my resume for more information), but these are the most recent things I've done. If you want to know more about me and my background, see my Owner Section Home page.
If you are in need of help doing any of the above (or anything else for which you believe I may be qualified) please contact me at .
