I tried to figure out the best way to write this manual, and originally came to the conclusion that it would be best served to start by describing the pages. I have added various miscellaneous pages, available in the Answerbag User Guide Index, In some cases, there will be links to pages discussing the individual parts of each section of each page. In others, the whole description/discussion will be "right there". Click on the page-type headers for more information on each.
I have not completed all of the following pages. There are "stub" pages, ready to start working on, but I found that much of the peripheral information was needed first. At the moment, Common Sections is complete. I will be working on the others as I am able, and will note their completion on this page.
You may wonder why the Answerbag Home page is half-way down the page list.
Common Sections contains things that are on almost all Answerbag pages. In the Common Sections is the Query Box - Search for answers, Ask a question, Search for members - so I felt both Search Results pages needed to follow that. Before you can do anything but read questions on the Home page (and their answers), you must Sign-up, so that page is listed next. And, many people are interested in the information found on their Profile page. It's also where you can tell others about yourself, where you find new answers to your questions, comments on your answers, and ratings. Therefore, it needed to go next. After that, we have the Home Page, which also includes a link to New Arrivals. Then comes the Question/Answers page, where you comment on others' answers, and answer others' questions. Last of all, is the Feedback Page. I hope this helps make the order of the pages listed make sense.
Common Sections AB FAQ Permalink COMPLETED
Almost all pages on Answerbag have common sections, though not all common sections are on all pages, On this page, you will find information about the Page top Headers and Buttons, the Query Box, the Login/User Info box,
Search Results Page AB FAQ Permalink
This is the page you are taken to when you are searching for answers, or you ask a question. It will show possible existing questions based on keywords from yours. If you wish to make sure you aren't duplicating an existing question (they aren't really allowed), edit your question down to your own keywords, and try searching again. Your question is safe on the right side of the page, unless you change it there.
Member Search Results Page AB FAQ Permalink
This is the page to which you are taken when you are searching for members. It will list the first 50 whose nick-/user-names start with, or contain, the word or name you use.
Sign up Page AB FAQ Permalink COMPLETED
When you first come to Answerbag, or are creating a second account, this is the page you are taken to.
User Profile/Account Pages AB FAQ Permalink
There are three versions of these pages.
Your Public Profile - What everyone sees by clicking on your avatar or nick-/user-name (2 versions... One for you and one for everyone else). Identified by your info being shown in a blue box on the left side of the screen, and your points box being below that. None of the tabs say "My", and your settings are not available, here. If you've modified your About Me, then you will see what others see. Note, that while you will be able to view your own activity (including ratings given), no one else (but staff) will. This is version two of this profile - the difference being between what you see, and what others see.
Your "Working" Profile - Another way of looking at your profile, this one allows you to edit your settings. This version should only be available to you. Identified by only showing your profile tabs and question lists on the left side of the page, and your info and points box being on the right side of the page. All of the tabs say "My", and your settings are available, here. There is also, Below the "GO!" on the right of the "Search for Answers/Ask a Question/Search for Members" Query box two links: See my Public Profile and Edit my profile/avatar.
AB Home Page AB FAQ Permalink
The main page of the site. This is where you can access the AB Blog, Topic of the Day, the Top 5 point receivers of the prior week (Sunday AM-Saturday PM Midnight), and all of the questions, especially those new at the time of your last access/refresh.
All category pages work the same way, but don't have the same things in the right-most column. They will show a "Category Expert" - a member who has answered a certain number of questions and made a certain number of points within the category - and some Google Ads. They also show the next level of subcategories within the main one.
New Arrivals Page AB FAQ Permalink
The link to this page is available at the Home Page. It shows the last 10 or so questions and answers that would also appear on the home page, and auto-refreshes, so you don't have to manually do it. The format is different from the Home Page, too.
Answers Page AB FAQ Permalink
This is where you will read current answers for a specific question, comment on them, rate them, and answer questions, yourself. NOTE: There are two ways to look at this page - Question View: Shows all the answers, 10 on a page, in the order you request (rating or date, just under the question on the right side); and Answer View: When you click on an answer in your profile or someone else's, or when someone has answered it.
Feedback Page AB FAQ Permalink
This is where you can send AB staff questions, suggestions, and bitches, rather than asking them in questions, where staff may not find them for a while. You can give AB your ratings on various things on the site. NOTE: The URL of the page from which you go to Feedback will automatically be loaded. This is so you can point out problems on a specific page without having to handle the link, yourself.
