Answerbag (AB) User-Guide - Page
Descriptions - Sign Up Page
by Bill Sanders - October 29, 2008
Please see Common Sections Page for information about the Headings/Buttons, Query Box, Login/User Info box, and (Page) Bottom.
When you click the Sign-up Button on an Answerbag page, you are brought to a page similar to the above, and asked to fill out the form.
In the following, blue fields are not required. All others are:
- Nickname
This is the name by which you will be known on AB. It is displayed on every question and answer you ask and answer, and every comment you make.
NOTE: Throughout this guide, I may use Nickname, User name, Profile name interchangeably)- When posting, show my name as "Anonymous" check box
If you check this box, your nickname will not be used, but will be replaced with "Anonymous". Note that there are literally hundreds of anonymous users on AB, and some people don't rate or interact with them. AB Etiquette is to allow your nickname to show, and do well by it.
- When posting, show my name as "Anonymous" check box
- E-mail
NOTE: Your email address will NOT be given to any third parties
This email address is used as your signin/login name, and is the one to which all Answerbag email will be sent, including:- your confirmation email (required to rate and give comments);
- any question on your Watch List which receives a new answer;
any moderation flag rejections;
and, optionally (may be "turned off" - see your profile/settings/preferences)
- when any of your submissions is rated by another member;
- when any of your submissions is commented by another member;
- when an answer you rated is updated;
- you may subscribe to site newsletter;
- when there are special events or offers on this site.
- Password
Your password - Required to sign back in. - Confirm Password
Your password - This is simply a verification of #3, in case you mistyped it. - Birthdate
Enter your birthdate. If you enter it here, it will appear in your Public Profile, and, when your birthday rolls around, you may get a Happy Birthday question in your honor. I believe it's also used during Age Verification when you attempt to enter AB4Adults. - Gender
Male or Female. If you choose, it will appear in your Public Profile. - Security Code
A random image containing the code you should enter will appear here. This is not case-sensitive. This helps protect Answerbag from attacks by people creating programs to generate numerous logins. - By checking this box, I am agreeing to the
Terms of Use
and
Privacy Policy
check box
You MUST check this to become a member of Answerbag. The links on the actual Sign-Up page go to the TOU and Privacy Policy questions/answers on Answerbag. Here, they go to the copies in the Answerbag User Guide Appendices. Subscribe to site newsletter with the latest fun and thought-provoking questions check box
Check this box if you wish to receive the Answerbag Newsletter. You may change your mind, either way, by checking the box in your Profile/My Settings/Preferences. NOTE: I'm unsure if this newsletter comes out that often. I have had my Preferences box checked for some few months, now, and have yet to receive one.Sign Up
Be sure you click the Sign Up button. You should receive a Confirmation Email shortly.
I had problems receiving mine, and sent an email to the Answerbag Admin ().. Apparently, there were problems with Hotmail, AOL, and maybe a few other email system accounts. They adjusted my account as if I'd responded, and I've been on ever since."
If I remember correctly, after you click the Sign Up button, you are taken to the home page and asked to sign in.
