Local/Locality Links
Indiana
- [Indiana] County History Preservation Society ($$)- See "biographies" section, above, for more information. This site contains historical maps, biographies from various Indiana "History and Portrait of... " county books, and is a very large work-in-progress. While a lot of information is free, there is quite a bit that requires the $10/year membership fee. Still very worth looking into.
-
Electronic Atlas of Central Indiana
- Scanned and indexed pages of historic books
- Hamilton County, Indiana 1880 - The 1880 "History of Hamilton County, Indiana, with Illustrations and Biographical Sketches of Some of it's Prominent Men and Pioneers, to which are appended Maps of its Several Townships", written and edited by TB Helm, and published by Kingman Brothers, Chicago
- Madison County, Indiana 1880 - The 1901 "Atlas and Directory of Madison County Indiana, including a Directory of Freeholders and Official Register of the County, with illustrations, Compiled from Recent surveys, official records and Personal Examinations of the American Atlas Company, Cleveland, Ohio. 1901"

Indiana Local History and Genealogy Research Guide
- This site has some good links, but I believe some, if not
all of the pages have links that don't work.
- Boone County, Indiana - History and Genealogy Research Guide and Links
- Hamilton County, Indiana - History and Genealogy Research Guide and Links
- Indiana Genealogy Links - Another link-oriented site
-
Conner Prairie
- from Hamilton County, Indiana - "Conner Prairie is
a large, open-air living history museum made up of five
distinct historic areas, a modern museum center and over
1,400 acres of natural beauty. Conner Prairie's mission is
to serve as a local, regional and national center for
education and activities exploring the lives, times and values
of the 1800s in America. ... It's a place where stories are
preserved for the future. Conner Prairie staff members strive
to accurately research and interpret the past and to create
public programs that bring 19th-century events and situations
into clear focus for visitors. Programs range from the joyful
festivity of an 1836 wedding to the dark uncertainty of the
Underground Railroad."
- History Online - "History Online has always brought you excellent articles, exhibits, etc about the history of the Midwest before the Civil War. Now as Conner Prairie expands History Online to include later periods in American History as a result of the Spring 2001 opening of the first of our 1886 historic sites. Look at the "Life in the 1880s" section to access articles used as a basis for the interpretation at the 1886 sites, which includes a district school, Quaker meeting house and covered bridge."
- History of Boone County - One of a couple of sites (see USGenWeb Project) containing the transcriptions of some of the old books of Boone County History.
- Fulton County, Indiana Genealogy - Written by Judge Wendell C and Jean C Tombaugh (Tombaugh House, Rochester, IN), these books contain obits, cemetery listings, family histories, death records, etc. There doesn't appear to be a search covering all the documents, so the best thing to do is use Google search with the site limiter: In the Google search box, type "site:www.fulco.lib.in.us name" (without quotes) with "name" being the name for which you are searching. Be aware that many of the files are in PDF and HTML forms, and in multiple directories.
- Bremen Public Library - Community Heritage Online Database - Searchable cemetery records and obituaries
- Indiana Township Association - "... a statewide, nonprofit organization established to unite and support the Trustees and Assessors in Indiana. It's mission is to secure for township officers and office holders full recognition and enjoyment of their rights to administer their responsibilities in a just and professional manner; to secure the tools necessary for them to fulfill their obligations as public servants; and to strengthen and extend our form of Township government in such a way as to provide to the citizens the services they are entitled." A few handy links here, including addresses and phone numbers of various township coordinators for various areas of the state.
- Hamilton County, Indiana (current info)
- Carmel High School - A Brief History - A page detailing the history of Carmel High School, Clay Township, Hamilton County, IN
- Carmel Clay (Indiana) Chamber of Commerce - Current information concerning the businesses of Carmel, Indiana.
- Westfield - Westfield's official municipal website,
- Search Systems Indiana - "The largest free Indiana counties public records database collection"

Local/Locality General
(These are "base" pages that include links to
localities, including states, counties, cities, etc.)
History/Genealogy
- American History & Genealogy Project - An attempt at the GenWeb type of site, with less "structure", allowing webmasters more "control" over what they offer and how they offer it. It's a fairly recent project, so has nowhere near as much data, but appears to be growing.
- GenExchange - "The Internet's first and oldest free databased genealogy web site, The Genealogy Exchange & Surname Registry (GenExchange), simply put, is a genealogical data exchange where visitors and researchers alike can go to find specific persons, and exchange specific data with one another." NOTE: This link goes to the main site. Currently (11/2003) they are moving their servers from VA to TN, and are still in the setup process. All that was available 11/2003 was the list of coordinators and their email addresses.
- USGenWeb Project - "... a group of volunteers working together to provide Internet websites for genealogical research in every county and every state of the United States. This Project is non-commercial and fully committed to free access for everyone." Contains various genealogical "projects", including Census Transcriptions, Tombstone Projects, and other transcriptions, divided by into State Archives and thence divided by Counties.
- USGenWeb Archives - "The USGenWeb Digital Library (Archives) offers actual transcriptions of public domain records. You will find copies of census records, marriage bonds, wills, and other public documents."
