NOTE: This page Under Construction/Conversion
This page has not been completely converted to OFPv2 Standards.
When this is completed, this paragraph will go away.
Meanwhile, all external links on this page open a new window.
NOTE: Most links on this page have not been verified, yet.

Special Note: Links marked with ($$) require a subscription and/or cost money!

The following links are to sites that provide access to records through subscription services. Most, if not all, provide

  • some free services
  • trial access
  • differing access levels
  • differing lengths of subscriptions (up to a year)

Obviously, the free and trial access services are to "whet your appetite", and show you what they have to offer. Differing access levels allow you to gain access to various types of records (ie: Ancestry allows access to Census Images, Civil War Indexes and Images, Historic Newspaper Images, etc.) Differing lengths of subscriptions allow you to "take a WAG (Wild-Assed Guess) at how long it will take you to find the information/images you want/need, and only subscribe for that length of time.

Note that all free services are NOT equal. It is sometimes possible to find free information on one site to ease the finding of information on the site(s) for which you have paid.

Links

MyFamily.com - "... is the leading online network for connecting families with their histories and with one another." and "By offering a variety of easy-to-maintain family websites, MyFamily.com gives families all over the world a unique venue for keeping in touch and strengthening relationships."

It's network of sites includes Ancestry.com, Genealogy.com, Rootsweb.com, and others, as well as sites owned by these sites. You must join each site to get access to all the information they contain. At some point, I hope that MyFamily will incorporate all the information, either into one super-site or via links to the other sites' information, so you can join one and get all the information from all of them without having to pay for each.

Note: There are MANY genealogical sites out there, and many of them are associated and/or owned by MyFamily.com or one of it's subsidiaries.

  • Ancestry.com - "With more than 5 billion names and 4,000 searchable databases, Ancestry.com is the #1 online source for family history information, including the web's largest collection of historical records."
    • Indiana Genealogy - Ancestry.com's Indiana Records, including Birth, Marriage, Death, Indiana Census Records, etc. Narrows the search down for a specific person to using Indiana only databases. To change states, just click on the state in the displayed map.
  • Genealogy.com Home Page - "... designs, develops and markets genealogy software applications and online resources that enable family history enthusiasts to research, organize and document their heritage at home or away. Developing software since 1984, Genealogy.com continues to be a leader in the genealogy technology space, producing the #1 selling family tree software — Family Tree Maker — for more than a decade. The company also provides extensive online genealogy resources, including subscriptions that give researchers continuous, easy access to valuable family history information ..." [original - from pre-redesign]
  • Rootsweb.com (FREE) - "RootsWeb.com is a thriving, free genealogy community on the web, providing a robust worldwide environment for learning, collaborating and sharing for the expert and novice alike."

OneGreatFamily - Genealogy and Family History - "... a cooperative effort between you and the rest of the world.  It is an online genealogical service which allows everyone to combine their knowledge and data to build one huge, shared database. OneGreatFamily is more than a simple collection of different family trees.  Using breakthrough technology, OneGreatFamily is actually linking all of the family trees together into one great family."

Genealogy Images in History - "... an expanding database of articles that I have saved over the years published in magazines, newspapers and books about people from the past who made the headlines. Some of these are very rare one of a kind documents and are very valuable, so we would be happy to make you an affordable professionally scanned copy if applicable. Originals are first come first serve.

[Indiana] County History Preservation Society - "Everything you see on the County History Preservation Society site was developed and implemented by Ronald Branson. Despite appearances, this site represents the efforts of one individual with the purpose of providing a wide range of access to documents that are no longer available to the general public, especially those who live outside of Indiana. ... In an effort to meet this stated purpose, all text information presented herein is accessible to any visitor. To assist in meeting the expenses of maintaining and growing this site, all larger images and the "Search Feature" have be set aside for only those individuals that have become Members of the society and are therefore Registered Users. As the financial requirements are modest, registration has been set at $10.00, renewable yearly, to make these services as accessible to the general public as possible." - This site contains historical maps, biographies from various Indiana "History and Portrait of... " county books, and is a very large work-in-progress.
