Example Property Page
Never Published - Originally Designed Summer, 2000

Using a PDF copy of my father's sign (blue on white - set up for printing), and the colors of the actual sign (red on yellow), I created the Sanders Rentals logo (the square on the left of the banner). Then, using a font I had on my machine, I created the right part of the banner. Then, using the colors (red and yellow), I created a gradient patch and tacked on a solid yellow background for the print side of the page.

There was to be information about the building/address in question on the right side of the page, but we never got that far. I had created both full-size (500-pixel-wide) and 250-pixel-wide versions of each picture, framed in red for the site, and had pages for each one. The "property sheet" below used the 250-sized pictures. I had also used MapQuest to show the location of the property. A second page would show the 500-sized image of the building, a 500-wide image of the map, a floorplan, and I asked for a spreadsheet with information on each apartment in each property to include. (Most of these were in refurbished houses, split into apartments, and each was different.) The information I asked for was:

Property Address
Apartment # Air-Conditioned? (T/L) Flooring:
Square Footage? Water (T/L)    Carpeted?
Upstairs/Downstairs/Both? Cable? (T/L)    Linoleum?
# Rooms Satellite? (T/L)    Wood Floors?
# Bedrooms Data Line? (T/L)    Tile?
# Baths    Type? Furnished? (with?)
Leased Until Date/Vacant Appliances Include: Notes/Selling Points/Etc.
  If vacant, Rent?    Dishwasher?    Schools?
Heated with:    Garbage Disposal?    Lease Length Available?
Gas? Who Pays (T/L)    Microwave?    Other? (Big Screen TV in common area, etc.)
   Electric? (T/L) Washer/Dryer:
Cook with:    Hookups in Apt?
Gas? (T/L)    Laundry Room in Bldg?
   Electric? (T/L)

The "T/L" is who pays for it... Tenant or Landlord (included in rent). I think most everything else is self-explanatory. I also asked for pictures of each apartment that I would have included (probably on an "Interior Pictures" page), which would give site visitors a kind of "virtual tour". (This was a few years before people started doing this.)

[This is one of the sites for which I think a database would have worked VERY well!]

About the time I got this far, Dad started selling off his properties in preparation for retirement, so the site idea basically fizzled out. I hadn't created an index or home page, yet, so I only have an example of a Property page.

Elizabeth House Home Page
Published September, 2001

A former church meeting building (the church who sold it is to the right, in the picture) had been converted into one-room "sleeping rooms", with communal bathrooms and a laundry, upstairs; and a full kitchen with double-sets of appliances and a huge common room with a big-screen television in it, in the full and finished basement. It was "dorm living" off-campus for Purdue Students and others who didn't mind that life-style. A high-bandwidth internet connection was also included, with each room wired for telephone, cable (satellite TV), and internet. A small server was set up for the house, and Dad wanted a page to appear on the internet and as the house's "Home" page.

The friend who had started to help with LYAO, set up the server, and I used the Sanders Rentals page (Elizabeth House WAS an SR Property), created a banner to match the colors, added a description (my father, my sister, and I all contributed), and the Home page was born. This will also give you an idea of what a fully developed Sanders Rental Property page was to look like.
