What's New(s) - Website Edition

See OFP/Owner - What's News - Personal Edition and my blog for what's going on in my life and more.

This is the page where I let you all know what's going on with OFP. Originally, I included personal items on this page. During the redesign, I haven't been including many updates, and I've moved ALL of the personal stuff to its own page. I also have a blog, now, and some will be included there.

Links have been updated to point to OFPv2 versions of pages. Please note that some OFPv1 pages have been split into multiple pages.

Anything left on this page that's personal will display in blue, with special items in red.

2008/08/24 It's been a while.  My computer died, and it took a couple of weeks to get a new one, and I'm STILL trying to get it back up-to-snuff with everything I used. Meanwhile:

Seems my site gets hit the most on the infomercial pages. Apparently, there are plenty of other people out there checking things out for their family. Then again, a lot of them are looking for the girls in the infomercials. My guess is they're looking for nekkid pix of 'em. Sorry guys... I haven't found any. Now and then I get a few hits on other pages, but nothing like those "Flim-Flam" ones! And, apparently, people thought to check out my blog. Guess I'm gonna have to update that, too! (It's been a while.)

That's it for now. -bs

  • Updated 404-Page Not Found page with Site Search and other changes.
2006/10/23
2006/09/30-2006/10/21
  • Worked a while getting the pages to appear correctly in both IE and Firefox browsers. (all CSS work). Apparently, still having problems with SOME of the Print CSS, though many pages will print correctly.
  • Moved OFP1 pages and folders to an OFP1 folder
  • Moved OFPv2 pages and folders into the main domain section and created Google Sitemap. Tried to get HTACCESS to work correctly to make sure links to OFP1 pages went to the correct OFPv2 pages, but couldn't. Created a sitemap using the OFP1 sitemap, pointing all links to OFPv2 pages.
  • I've added a Site Help page to explain how defined words/abbreviations and the glossary work, what the "new window" buttons mean (and examples), and about printing OFPv2.
  • The last couple of days I've been adding a Malware FAQ page, Computer Security Links and Example Emails of those I've received that contained viruses.
2006/09/29
  • All pages were finished and published to OFP2 directory to make sure everything works right, and to validate all pages.
  • 09/29/2006 - All pages were validated to be 4.01 Transitional compliant. (I know they shouldn't be "transitional" as new design, but I didn't think about it as I was designing them, and am leery of mass-changing the "transitional" header to "strict", then having the whole thing fail.)
  • The Screen and Print CSSes validated, yesterday, also, except for the InLine Buttons (on a few pages, right now, so I can set the text links as opening in the current window, and the inline buttons will open the new window). They have been defined using hacks. I also got warnings about not having background colors when I defined colors (and transparent doesn't count as a color!) Everything else validated.
  • Add "Plans" page.
2006/09/xx
  • While I'm still working on the rewrite, the existing OFP pages have all been converted to the new formats and CSS. I have to "standardize" many pages, but doing them as I was converting them was taking too long.
  • Still to do:
    • Make sure all links use real text, not the actual link
    • Verify the links I didn't as I revamped the pages.
    • Any external link should include the "Off Site/New Window" button by it, where the text link uses the current window and the button opens a new window.
    • Define many more terms, and add links for the ones already defined. (Glossary)
  • I did separate many pages from the originals, which is what took so long... I had to figure out how I wanted to split things up. I hope I did a good job.
  • THIS is one of the few tables left in the new site. All other tables have been converted to DIVs.
  • I've spent far too long doing this conversion, but I hope it makes OFPv2 MUCH better than OFPv1.

From the prior What's New(s) page:

I'm working on revamping OFP. When I'm done, it may not LOOK much different, but trust me, it will be. Among the changes:

  • Complete rewrite of the CSS and HTML formats
  • Use SSIs in place of external Javascripts
  • Use INTERNAL Javascripts when necessary (save email from spam, etc.)
Between these two, it SHOULD get rid of the "This site uses scripts... Click here to allow..." problem.
  • Create "sections" - Main, Owner and Scams, Shams and Flim-Flam sections
  • Break some of the longer, more detailed pages down to separate pages
  • Create a "print" CSS, using Black & White only, and not showing the sidebar and linkbars

As you can see, the majority of the changes will be "behind the scenes", but hopefully it will be easier to find stuff. Keep an eye out for the changes.

2006/02/07
  • Found a problem I was having with the Rumors pages "pushing the right-margin" out past the side of the page. It appears it has to do with "unbreaking URLS" (no place for them to wrap), and the way they overflow (the right-side of the page, especially in tables, blockquotes and lists). This may only be a problem in certain browsers (like IE), but needs to be addressed. One way is to only display a "Click Here", a name or a small picture for the hyperlink, However if it's desirable or necessary to display the hyperlink, this poses a problem. Another way (especially for pages like "Rumors", could be to "source" them, listing them at the end of the page, but there are some that are long enough, even this would not help. Solutions? Please let me know! ( ). [OFPv2 standard is that all links be "semantic", most using the actual link's page title. If they don't have one, I make it up, drawn from or based on the page, itself]

The only pages that are NOT 4.01 Transitional should be the Sanders-Klump Wedding Photo Album and the BD Card.

  • I created a new webpage for my sister to evaluate for their new (ANOTHER one!) business, "The Corner Place", and loaded on this website as a subweb. It does tie in with the other one... sort of. Check out: http://www.orangefrogproductions.com/tcp/ and tell us what you think. I will wait until it's either published or not before I put it on the OFP Websites page.
  • Personal stuff. (See What's News - Personal Edition):
  • That's all for now, until some time after the surgery. TTYL
2005/06/16
  • In Mid-to-Late December, 2004, I was asked to redevelop the Lafayette Church of the Brethren website. Within a few days, I had the new graphics and style of the site complete, and published it as a subweb of OFP for the clients to review. Changes at the church and on the server put off actual publication until recently. Check out www.lafayettecob.org to see the new site, and OFP Developed/Designed Websites at www.orangefrogproductions.com/ofp[m]_websites.[s]htm[l] to see some of what I did.

  • Designed, created and published Barrington West Apartments (West Lafayette, IN) site. (www.barringtonwestwl.com) (Hosted at GoDaddy.
  • Updated splash pages and robot.txts for Say Cheese, Barrington and OFP so search engine will "crawl" main pages. Had to add Site Map link into the splash pages, since most other links are in JavaScripts, and the crawlers can't find them.
  • OFP - Added OFP and Family Member Website Links to Link Central.
2004/08
thru
2004/10/20
  • Have been working off-and-on for the past few months on my sister's new business website. Beginning in late September, there were problems with the server on which OFP and the new site were located - hardware problems started making it crash every few minutes, usually not even long enough to save the site back to my computer. The administrator managed to make a copy, then it stayed on long enough for me to make some major changes to it. I finally managed to get all the changed pages since the copy down, and it was installed to GoDaddy's hosting servers 10/20/2004. Check out www.saycheesenovelts.com. I think I did a pretty good job, there. I also created the order forms and all of the on-site graphics, except the splash-screen.
  • The same server was hosting Orange Frog Productions (OFP), and finally stayed up long enough for me to copy it all down to my computer. I made a few changes (following) and moved it to GoDaddy's hosting.
    • Updated the Site Map (apparently forgot to do so, before) with the Opinions/Rants page.
    • Changed the Home page.
  • Personal stuff. (See What's News - Personal Edition):
