Things I Did, Below

I, personally, receive email in HTML format. The following was received (and looked) like I received it. At the time, I was more interested in the message than the headers and do not have the original. This is a copy I forwarded to myself as I sent it to my father.

• I removed my email addresses. These came to various accounts and some no longer exist. There are places on this site you can get hold of me if you wish or need to. They are protected from spambots using JavaScript, but all you have to do is click on them.
• All scammer and related email addresses, and any actual website links have been changed, at least putting spaces into them. They appear as underlined blue links, though they aren't.
• Any notes I added in the actual letter are in square brackets ("[" "]"), are bold, red in color, and highlighted. If what I found "behind the links" (email or website) are different than what was displayed, I will include them in this type of note.
• All spelling, spacing, line-wrapping, and punctuation errors are the ones that appeared in the original received email. (I may or may not analyze some or all of these.)

With the references to "SSALAAMU ALLAIKUM" [should be "Assalaamu Alaikum" (Islamic greeting "Peace be upon you"), Alah/Allah and MUHAMMED, the statement, "THE REST OF THE FUND WILL BE USED IN SUPORTING [sic] THE WORKS OF ALMIGHTY ALLAH LIKE BUILDING HUASE [sic] OF ALLAH", and the one about the relatives "... SOME OF THEM ARE CHRISTANS", I believe this letter is targeted to:

1. Muslims
2. Christians who feel that all Muslims are being persecuted for the actions of a few
3. Any people who would NOT do what was asked (build an orphanage and "House of Allah") but would take any monies sent for themselves

What I find VERY interesting, is that when searching for the name DR. MUSHARAF EL-KANEMI, to see if it's a real name (which scams like this have been prone to use), the only reference I found was a Nigerian Letter from July 18, 2006 (Letter #2700 - use your browser's "Find" capability), in which the writer and her husband "BOTH BECAME CHRISTIANS". Besides, that letter was obviously used as the template for this one, almost word-for-word.

The latter is one of the reasons I present them. The mills that generate them all use the same names and locations.

Problems I see:

• Obvious (to me, anyway) errors:
  • from the email, itself:
    • How can you be "born an orphan". You can be born, then made an orphan, but you had to have at least a mother to give birth to you. (Maybe I'm being a bit technical here, but come on ...)
    • While stating that she has cancer, has had a stroke and is typing this one-handed, it's fairly lengthy and coherent. That description also explains away the misspellings and typos, making it difficult to point to them as "problems".
    • There are still plenty of examples of "broken English", which again is explained away since she states she's from "NEGIL REPUBLIQUE" and is now a resident of the "COTE D'IVOIRE" (The Ivory Coast, Africa)
    • An orphanage, to me, is an institution with room for between 50 and 100 orphans at a minimum, though I guess it could be smaller. It needs to be staffed with people with social services and adoption experience, have numerous professionals either on-staff or retainer (nurses, a doctor or two, a lawyer), maintenance staff, kitchen staff, custodians, and others. $10 Million would barely cover the land and the building. How does it pay the staff?
  • from the Email Headers:
    • The IP Address "203.216.249.190" could not be located through GeoBytes.com - IP Address Locator, leading me to believe it is "spoofed" (faked).
    • Uh, since this was written by someone from "Negil Republique" (the closest I could find on the internet basically puts the "Negil" or "Negril" in Jamaica) and, supposedly, sent from her current residence on the Ivory Coast (West Africa), why is the email address from Yahoo - Japan (Yahoo.co.jp)?
    • Who is "mrselkanemi1944 @ yahoo.com", to whom, my reply would be sent? And why would "mrs_afrah_el2001 @ yahoo.co.jp" send my reply there?
    • For either of those email addresses used, be aware that Yahoo is a free email service all over the world, therefore making it very easy to set up email addresses. (From my point of view, Mrs_Afrah_el2001, sounds like an email address set up in 2001.)
