Meanwhile, all external links on this page open a new window.
Spoof/General Scams are also known as Spoof Email, Phishing, Phishing Scam, .
The Scam
After rolling your mouse-pointer over the links you see that they are what they say they are. If they aren't, don't click them at all!
You open your browser, type in the first part (through the domain-name - ".com", ".net", etc.), so you can "check out the site".
It's an offer to do surveys, offers for "spam-type" items (see my spam pages), or, even more befuddling, adult medications ("an all natural male enhancement formula that is proven to increase your volume by up to 500%", toys (YOU know what I mean, here!), male "enhancers" (not medications... vacuum pumps), or a porn site.
BE AWARE: It could also download a virus, adware, spyware, or a "dialer", or change your connection information. BE SURE your anti-virus scanner is running, and run your anti-other program(s) at least periodically.
Some people may not consider this type of "spoof" emails as a scam. HOWEVER, if they are made to appear to be from one place and send you off to another, THEY ARE FRAUD, as far as I'm concerned.
External Spoof/General Scam-Specific Links
While not necessarily Phishing, the same information holds true. See the links on my Spoof/Phishing Scam Home page.
Examples
Following are links to some of the numerous versions of this scam I have received, or that were sent to me to "check out". I will try to "reproduce" the actual "look" of the email in my examples.
